Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Looks great - do you know the design? It looks similar to '74 World Champ Rob O'Sullivan's boat, though that had wings of course - the bump in the middle of the bow block is distinctive. I'm putting this link here rather than in the For Sale section in case anyone else sees it - it appears to me to ...

Re: (?) on ebay

Yes, definitely a standard Stockholm Sprite as built by Dennis J. Trott & Ptnrs, similar to 1972 Nationals winner. A new set of tubes could easily be bent up from ali tube, then it needs a 2" Needlespar mast & boom and a Tratman & Lowther f/b sail for authenticity - hope the new own...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Seems to have gone a bit quiet here. I found and dug out the old newletters and looked at a few - it reminded me of who the guys are who did designs through my period in the class. John Pearce is another person who did quite a few, starting with one in 1974-5 called 'Sidewinder' that I never saw. Paul

Re: My idea of hell...

A total lack of breeze is not necessarily impossible - it just takes practise........I have a photo in an old newsletter that shows it but can't post it. You wouldn't believe it to look at me now, but I used to be able to crouch between the front of the daggerboard and the kicker, to keep the weight...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Excellent! If you want to meet up to see if any of my pics are any use, just let me know.

Make sure you include all the history, including the King of Thailand's designs.....

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Unfortunately I know that I don't have a photo of Dave in that boat, although I'm not at home now (for some reason I never took one, probably because I knew everyone else would, since he won everything) - there is one in the 1982 yearbook which is still available on this link:- http://web.archive.or...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

I'm afraid the Skol 3 isn't mine - I just found the photo while surfing. It is indeed wider than the Skol 2, and with a self-draining cockpit it was said to be lighter in the Rondar brochure that can be read on the links to the old Moth site that I posted. My Moth sailing days are over; apart from b...

..........and a Moth fleet!

The water gets a bit low in summer though (or it did when I sailed there with Bristol Poly in the '70s)

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

I've been trying to post a photo of an old Moth - finally success......

It's not one of my photos, but it shows the Skol 3 shape which was wider than the 2 and with a self-draining cockpit (Peter Conway's first Moth was a Skol 3 to which he added wings).

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Apart from the British designs and the Aussie scows, I took some pics of some of the European boats at the '77 Worlds at Hayling and the '83 Worlds at Eastbourne, which all adds to the story (and the confusion!). The Danish design seen somewhere hereabouts which had been pictured in the '75 yearbook...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Definitely a 5: http://www.campionboats.co.uk/html/sail_-_magnum.html not a 6 (the white one): http://web.archive.org/web/20071025053401/www.int-moth.org.uk/PicArchive71.htm (picture by yrs.trly.) Narrower transom on the 6 than the 5, overlapping chines are a bit higher, and there was usually a rudd...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

That must have been 1977..............you're probably in the background of one of the pics I took there!
