Re: Newbie question: What is a jammer block?

So to use one as a jammer block would I simply place the jammer block at the foot of the mast via a Dee Shacle, with the line simply going thru the stainless line loop off my boom?

I'm trying to picture it but struggling a little

Transum traveler do they have a name, looks correct?

I touched on this in an earlier post, here is the traveler rig on my Torch, does this method have a 'proper' nautical name as such and does this look correct...I feel sure there could be a better way of fixing the rig to the traveler than by a strip Dee Shackle..some sort of single pulley maybe? htt...

bronze or stainless dee shackles..alternatives?

Hi guys
my rigging seems to have quite a few bronze dee shackles. I want to get a few spares as i'm the sort to loose the screw pins!

Can i substitute stainless for bronze...any issues with strenght etc?

It has occurred to me that there maybe an alternative to dee shackles...any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: What knot? How to lash lower shrouds to chainlinks.

Incidentally I use lashings rather than turnbuckles on my modern boats... But I use the very thin very high tech modern dyneema rope. lashing.jpg Its light and cheap - what's not to like? And yes, lots of half hitches to secure and use the loose end up. This looks just as mine currently does..may t...

Re: Newbie question: What is a jammer block?

Thanks Rupert, could they be used as a kicker?...my kicker is nothing more than a line going down to the mast foot...most anything would be better

Re: What knot? How to lash lower shrouds to chainlinks.

The Cadets, Mirrors and Herons of my youth were rigged with thin rope, using numerous turns between chainplate and shroud ends. We then used to use multiple half hitches to tidy up the loose ends, there is no real force being applied to that end of the rope as you have got a multipart purchase. tha...

Re: What knot? How to lash lower shrouds to chainlinks.

Been looking at this rig a little more and have decided to fit some high tech 21st century turnbuckles

...2 off 6mm jaw to jaw closed bodied turnbuckles for £12 isn't going to break the bank.

Re: What knot? How to lash lower shrouds to chainlinks.

Hi Kev, thanks for asking.

No, its the shrouds (side stays)...there are no turnbuckles fitted, just a line to the chainstays off the lower shrouds.

I'm raising the mast later today out of the wind, I'll see if I can get a photo.

The dinghy is a Torch.

What knot? How to lash lower shrouds to chainlinks.

I hope I've got my terminology correct. Standing rigging for my mast. My lower shrouds end in a loop Nico-Press fitting as is normal, then another Nico-Press loop fitting which is fitted on to a rope line that ties onto the chainstay (fitting on top of the deck!)....my Torch has no fancy stainless a...
