Proctor Centenary 2018

There is already a thread running on the topic of the on water activities (the more the merrier!). But of greater importance is to use this opportunity to collect as much detail on what boats exist and where. Merlins Rockets, N12s, 14s, 18s and Canoes are in one work folder. In another are his desig...

Re: Bosham Proctor event.

Okay all,

a quick update. Proctor 2018 is a GO at Bosham, details will be announced shortly.

If AYC or any other club are keen to add a touch of Proctor to their event next year. that sounds great - email me if you wish for any assistance

Re: Bosham Proctor event.

Suffolk Merlin; The big meeting on the event is tomorrow night - I'll know more after that. Given that Proctor started his sailing up towards the east coast, nothing stopping any club adding a bit f a proctor flavour to their event

Re: Rather lovely Classic Mirror 14 on ebay

Gosh, this really is an oldie, a genuine early Bell kit boat........

But a wonderful boat to sail and a great (and successful in it's day) take on the 'pocket rocket' genre

Re: Bosham Proctor event.

Robert,

if at some point you can get a close up that would be brilliant - thank you

As things stand there is a 'hold' on the Bosham side of things - Dinghy Show is going ahead, the rest is under discussion

Re: Daring dinghy

I am amazed, yet saddened, that there isn't a queue of people wanting to take this on - after all, isn't this the very essence of what the classic scene should all be about? If it was a Merlin, one of the more favoured ones, a Mk IX/IXb, XII...or a Passing Cloud, there would be a stampede. But a boa...

Re: TV series coming soon

Nick, I am not sure how they went about the construction of all the material, in some things they almost had an excess of detail, some of it extraneous to the topic, other bits that might have been worth further expansion were glossed over. There is talk of a second series, I hope so for they've som...

Re: 2018 events

Robert - really? That is an amazing coincidence! As I said, I'm not organising the event but an working as a 'consultant' almost. I had been thinking about putting articles out in the media to see what boats ARE out there....Blue Peter, Beaufort, Alpha, Marlin (now a Marlin Mk 3 would make a superb ...

Re: 2018 events

Ian, Have you been getting psychic waves or something! Much as I would love to be afloat my guess is that I'll be working - maybe helping the media out so the cameras are looking at the right boats and the people are saying the right things. We can organise space for a camper too! Currently I have i...

Re: 2018 events

Robert, a good point BUT.... going back to 2012 and the Holt Centenary, the CVRDA were happy to support an event (which they did, superbly) but less up for the organisational side of things. And it is that organisation that will be the make or break of the event. Proctor 2018 has been an active topi...

Re: Round the Island Race.. Dinghies 6th June 1953.

Pierre, It is a slow process, for every time I try to come forward in the chronology of the story, I get dragged back to those days somewhen in 1952 to 1954 when so much was going on in the world of performance dinghy sailing. Some of this is only partially referenced to the 505 story but if the nar...

Re: 2018 events

Rupert, although I am involved in an advisory capacity, I'm not actually the organiser of the Bosham event. The RYA have asked me to 'lead' the celebrations at the Dinghy Show, where Proctor will get a good showing. I'd imagine boats in the West corridor, some free standing sets of his plans + pictu...

Re: Round the Island Race.. Dinghies 6th June 1953.

Pierre, Too close.....and you've clearly not had the story about the cake that was on board Osprey. Ian put a lot into the race and was a deserved winner, though looking at the margins had Coronet had a proper suit of sails she might have done even better (she sailed with an old suit of 14 sails). A...

Re: 2018 events

Peter, This is just an FYI and is far from confirmed but the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd may well be when the Proctor Centenary event will be taking place at Bosham. At this point in time I haven't anything definitive as to how this will work - what has to be avoided is the 'free for all' that ended...

Re: Round the Island Race.. Dinghies 6th June 1953.

Pierre, I have now researched this race in detail not once but twice! Firstly, as part of the story of the Coronet/505, as this was very much a key stage in the development of the 'new' boat. Then, secondly, as part of the work that I have been doing for next years Ian Proctor centenary, which will ...
