Re: N12 on ebay
Only just down the road from me - built in the year I was born..... I will not be living much longer if I bring another boat home mind but I am tempted....

Re: Cover for 18' Uffa Fox Jollyboat needed
Cheap plastic tarp with gaffer tape reinforcement round cut edges is the way to go temporarily. For a varnished wooden boat I would get a breathable polycotton boom up cover so there is room for air circulation and you don't get damp cover laying on your nice decks or the sauna you find under PVC co...

Re: Transom drain flaps
Yes - I wouldn't be without transom drain holes in the Osprey - they do work but on aesthetic grounds I have been sailing without flaps as I like the unencumbered varnish look. This is o.k. in high winds as they empty the boat in minutes but in lighter weather if you slow down at all the water just ...

Re: Transom drain flaps
But they only sell 8x4 sheets of the thin stuff... Anyone else need some too? At least I know what to look for now.

Re: Transom drain flaps
The boat is an Osprey - when flooded the water level is to the top of the Transom. The holes do clear it when it gets moving (and it has the power to accelerate even full of water) but if you tack or slow down for any reason it all comes back in with no flaps to stop it.... Anyway thanks for the lin...

Transom drain flaps
Having spent far too long trying to get the water out after a capsize I have decided that our transom drain holes need flaps. I had previously rejected these because I liked the look of the shiny varnished transom unencumbered with bits of plastic but like the non slip on the gunwhales which I had a...

Re: Varnishing a mast
Someone at our club has done his Drascombe mast with "Deks Olje" (sp?) which seems to have worked very well - it even looks shiney and varnished but is in effect oiled. If you use epoxy you will still have to varnish as on the whole epoxy is not UV stable.

Re: Toothbrushes
When working in tight spaces you can heat them with a hot air gun to bend them to a suitable shape.

Re: Sailing In Ambridge
Its hard to tell if they are genuine recordings or not but I like to think they are. The missus reckons not because the tacks aren't accompanied by thunks and swearing. I just think they would leave that for the actors to do......

Re: Sailing In Ambridge
I don't think the beeb will be able to put the Archers afloat anymore...... I have just bought the original internal use BBC sound effects record of dinghy sailing for a princely 99p on e-bay! It has classic tracks such as "Tacking up to a mooring" and "getting Underway (Rigging)".

Re: Low stretch rope
That's Bob the Albacore.... He wanted to re-string his Albacore but didn't want to pay chandlery prices. In order to get to what he wanted to pay per metre he had to have a container load made!

Re: Harken traveller carriage
There is a harken track and traveller on ebay at the moment - item no 120395479440 but it may be a bit large. Its off a yacht but it is difficult to judge the actual size from the pics.

Re: Early Phantom on e-bay
Let us know if it does go on e-bay.... I don't need / can't afford / have no justification for another boat but for some reason am tempted by a phantom just for days when I don't have an Osprey crew........ Perhaps we could barter for varnishing work.....
