I am pretty sure that Holt’s clear plastic primer is an acrylic paint. If you are spraying that over varnish the thinner in the acrylic may attack your varnish and cause your cloudiness, not a good situation.

I remember a Fireball with one on it in 1964 and a lot of dicussion at the time about whether or not it was legal.

Believe me I know. I used to sail the Pegasus in the frostbite series at Tewkesbury sailing club,around this time of year. If you have to remove the stains. A common household white candle rubbed across the treated area will restore the waterproofing. Or you can go uptown and get one of those silicone sprays used for treating your boat anorak
