None for ages then two at once...if this is a Swift that is..could be a Shearwater? Looks like it's been in a time warp!

Re: Nationals Results and Participants, '50's, 60's, 70's
I have a set (I think) of Dinghy Year Books from the late '50s, early '60s that I think have most of the major classes results from each year. These stopped being available mid '60s I think and I don't know what filled the gap up to the computer age...there's probably a Y&Y archive awaiting some...

Re: Fleetwind?
To quote from my 1961 Bosun Book of Sailing Dinghies............... 'An inexpensive 12 footer made of 1/4 inch resin bonded mahogany plywood glued to keel, chines and gunwales. Two sails and a dagger plate drawing 3ft. As fast as a Firefly off the wind but not as speedy to windward. About 400 sail n...

Re: Mercury Dinghy 87 ?
Just looking at those pictures of the Mercury, I suddenly could 'smell' the wooden dinghies the old jeans, plimsolls and waterproof top I wore when sailing in the '60's and 70's...................... Plastic boats just don't have the same sensory experience! I relate to that! The smell of the varni...

Re: Maybe not a dinghy, but worth a look on ebay
Definitely not a Tempest...doesn't look deep enough in the forefoot to be a Kestrel but looks vaguely familiar, sort of a chunky Wineglass!? Guessing the sail is probably not original.

Re: Painting the inside of a grp moulding
Indeed you did Gavin - how are you and the boat?GAv wrote:I did and have only sailed it once, and that entailed a Ann airlift off the Manningtree Mud.
Kind regards Gavin.
What happened in the Manningtree mud?

Re: Painting the inside of a grp moulding
I've found Danboline admirable at attaching itself to some ropey old surfaces and covering a mulititude of blemishes very effectively - would you buy a used boat from this man?

Re: A sticky question....?
Many thanks all once again - the boat is in two pieces so I've bought some 25mm fibreglass tape, the Sikaflex was tempting but, as said, I have the chance to do the full structural hit so will give it a go - thanks.

Re: A sticky question....?
That's good to know, thanks - and presumably, being a Laser it's the only thing..no bolts?trebor wrote:I used Sikaflex on a Laser, which had completely detached, constant bumping against jetty detaches top from bottom, This is still attached after about 12 months of same abuse.
Thanks - Andrew

Re: A sticky question....?
Thanks to all - do you think the Sikaflex will give a good enough bond? It's a lot less time and temperature dependent than the epoxy solution and I was hoping that the bond would be permanent and strong.
Really appreciate the benefit of your experience!

A sticky question....?
Hoping someone here has done this before - I have acquired sixties Ladybird (!) dinghy (grp) where the deck has detached itself from the hull moulding. It's unusual in that the hull is the part that has the flat flange (and only about half an inch) and the 'U' moulding of the deck beds on to that i....
