Re: old school moth rig on the bay

Ray's head of hair only departed because he lopped it off for charity , and his wife liked it.
Mine only seems to grow on my ears these days !

Re: old school moth rig on the bay

I'm from the Island , but currently living in south Florida , although I get back to my parents place in Shorwell several times a year , when we'll get the Aussie scows Moths' out at Hamstead. I don't think Ray sailed Unicorns at Weston. His was into Cherubs & Moths ( and others ) in the 70s. He...

Re: old school moth rig on the bay

For your info. this is being sold by Ray Hutchings from Shorwell on the Island ... It's the original sail from Billabong , my Imperium Aussie scow Moth. The guy who built her up north , sailed her once , frightened himself whilst doing so , then stored the boat and rig for 30+ years. I believe that ...

Re: Calling all Moth and scow addicts.........

Here's a Moth sales leaflet where the Sh part of John Shelley's name was used together with Mc from Bill McCutcheon.
Bill gave me this 1965 leaflet that he used to hand out at the dinghy shows ;

"Looks great - do you know the design? It looks similar to '74 World Champ Rob O'Sullivan's boat, though that had wings of course - the bump in the middle of the bow block is distinctive". PaulM Hi Paul ... My scow is an Imperium design , built by Kit Lawson in Lancashire. He sailied her o...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

We've got a permit for the rural dinghy park at Hamstead. A bumpy 2 mile drive down an unmade lane to get there , I wouldn't want to try it in a little car , and there are no facilities when you do get there. Beautiful scenery though. With a lightweight car topable dinghy like the Moth you could als...

Thanks , I'll let Ray know about the possible event at Gurnard.

Bill McCutcheon's ex-house name ( now his next door neighbours ) is painted on a Shelley transom ;

Re: Early Int. Moth info.

Here are three Moth's owned by either myself & Ray Hutchings. My McCutcheon Shelley is in Florida & raced with a USA Classic Moth rig , but still retains the original UK number , 2721. Ray sailed her and came second at the 2009 Classic Moth Midwinters in Gulfport Florida. Bill McCutcheon bui...

Re: Single Hander, pref GRP, not toooo wiiiild

My friend has a nice looking fibreglass Europe , all ready to race. I think he'd take ₤300 for it ..... and I know he'd trade it for a nice Cherub if anyone has one.

Some of the photo's I took in Gulfport Florida at the MidWinters & others I took at the Nationals . Elizabeth City , North Carolina. Elizabeth City is where the first US Moth was built & the Nationals are held there every September. The guy in the bottom photo , Rod Koch from Gulfport , make...
