Just appeared at Bridge boats a secondhand boat junk emporium near here, Looks like a Shearwater or Cheetah catamaran as built by Prouts in the 60's, looks to be all there on a trailer with spars.
If anyones into such things i can find out if its for sale & if its worth having a crack at.

Re: 1948 International 14 restoration ethics.
In the roof of Benfleet yacht club hangs an Int 14, Destiny 1948 the last of the multi skinned close ribbed boats. I aquired her 20 years ago & had visions of repairing her, she had been allowed to sit on a lawn half full of water for years & effectively had reached the point of no return. I...

Re: 16ft Dinghy restoration begins
Thats the closest bet so far but mine is wider at 6ft beam, which is a fair bit. She had a bowsprit sticking outboard by about 3ft as well & this appeared to be original as the deck was unaltered. Her mainsail had number two on it & an exact sister ship No 3 was still in existence at Oulton ...

Re: 16ft Dinghy restoration begins
Got the old keel out this afternoon it was fastened to the hog with about 30 1 3/4" x 16 brass screws, half of them came out the others heads snapped of so i had to carefully drill some away & chisel others with a fine cold chisel ground from an old screwdriver. Fortunately the original hog...

Re: Walnut Shell Blasting
Some years ago i blasted the inside of a vintage Saunders launch, she was built in 1905 & had some real clarty paint on her, as i wanted to preserve the copper stitching holding her planks together i used fine carborundum grit, this was fired out of a modified Portablast gun as used in Car body ...

Re: 16ft Dinghy restoration begins
I recently bought a large chunk of English Oak, for the keel etc, got it from Lenham Oak near Ashford in kent cut quarter sawn at 17ft long. Today i cut it roughly to size & ran it through the thicknesser, as its still pretty green i have left it slightly over size, mightly fine bit of timber cl...

Re: Power tools
Regarding the sealey ER 150 its a 240 volt electric job & is i reckon way better than the bosch or any other. As far as air tools go Random orbitals are usually straight copies of the Chicago pneumatic, which was the best air DA ever, if air tools are desired they will work from 70 psi up but yo...

Re: Varnishing and Deck Fittings
You might well find the new mahogany will first darken on exposure to the sun & then start to fade with the rest of it. Regarding deck fittings i usually varnish first then drilfor fittings. The important thing to remember is Silicon rubber sealant has no place whatsoever on any wooden boat, the...

Re: Power tools
The best sander i have ever used is a Sealey ER150 random orbital, well balanced & well made. Mine is now 15 years old & has seen much use. The first thing to do with random orbitals is throw the supplied velcro pad away they are too expensive. Buy a soft foam feather edge pad that takes Sti...

YW DB is the ideal boat for a new girlfriend, room to stow a decent picnic & wine, nice & stable & a centreboard slot for her to pee down, if she does this without complaint you know she's going to be a good sailor!

I restored one about 20 years ago, she came out of a back garden in Old Leigh & was built of very high quality ply, i sold her to a friend who raced her hard at Benfleet & did quite well in handicap racing.

Re: Boat/handicap bandit for sale
That DB doesnt look bad in the photos, but as someonre who has rebuilt three of the things there is no way i would even contemplate putting a bid on it unless i had had a good look at her first!

Re: 16ft Dinghy restoration begins
All the fwd deck beams are now in and the kingplank is fitted. I think i was lucky to get away with the rot, it had just started in a couple of the old beams & in another year would have been into the beamshelf & sheerstrake in which case i think it would have been currtains!

Re: The Ultimate Handicap Bandit
Another vote for the YW Dayboat, back in 78 my father & i built a glued clinker one no 596 "Phantom". I raced her at our club for quite a while & she proved to be very hard to beat, she was up against GP14's, Lasers, Solos, 470's & assorted other dinghies. I aint that good but ...
