Re: So which boat should I be looking for?

How about a splash or a comet uno, both easy to sail and quite comfy, old national a possibility but tend to be a bit heavy for single handed sailing esp if wind picks up.

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

National 12s of course, so much history and development, loads of info from the likes of Robin and Howard Stephenson, Jo Richards, mike Jackson, rob Peebles etc even great yacht designers like Hugh Welborn. What more could you ask for. Even Keith dabbled

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

David H do you possibly know where I could get hold of a merlin year book and a few old news letters from v late 70 s and the 80s. Not a member of the association as mainly sailed N 12s but always messed about and had a big interest in them. Any help appreciated

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

Believe Barry Dunnings old boat has been saved to be fully restored and is to be sailed at Rudyard Lake. Still believe it's an NSM1 looking at the pics and comparing it to 3143 which I sailed in the late 80s which was a Rowsell NSM1. When it was referred to an NSM, Barry D never corrected it on the ...

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

This is an NSM 1 and was built by Laurie Smart for Barry Dunning. Also belonged to the McAuslands and could be the boat they are sailing in in the Merlin Rocket book at topsham I think. Worth saving I would think. Smart boats are so well made

Was that PTO, designed by a certain Jo Richards. He designed the very opposite in 1979 that went like stink in a force 4 or above but stuck like crazy in anything less called Street Legal

Re: Tony Allen and the TOY dinghy

David, hope the Merlin book is coming on well, can't wait to read it. As for the Toy2000 I agree the concept was better than the finished product but, having been involved in a very small way while a member of Gunfleet, another problem was publicity and promotion as the only fleet to ever exist was ...

Re: Tony Allen and the TOY dinghy

the toy was redeveloped by a group of x laser sailors at Gunfleet Sailing Club, Clacton on Sea back in 1990 and at least 5 boats were built from a new mould produced from the best of the old Gunfleet boats. The sliding seat was removed and it's mounting removed from the deck moulding to make trapezi...

Re: My new i14

If this was the original Hutchinson it had a huge space frame which went up to boom level with the boom gooseneck being attatched to it. This would explain why there appears to be no support of the mast in this region as it would have all been removed when the boat was modified to hog stepped mast. ...
