flaps or self bailers - your opinions please..

Good afternoon I have removed the Anderson type bailers from the hull for inspection and things there weren't good. So I have the option , as I can see that holes in the transom have been filled at some stage, to fit transom flaps instead and block the holes in the hull.... fewer holes in the bottom...

Just found my number

This morning I took many layers of paint from my Albacore for restoration and found the original number carved into the woodwork....

1775

Can anyone hazard a guess to any history / original name / year of build?

Regards

Tim

Your opinion on the centreboard and cockpit sole refurb...

Took the centreboard out of my '69 Albacore , A bit scraped where it rotates in the box and some paint missing here and there so I have stripped it down. what is your opinion on either painting it again or varnishing it , varnish as hardwearing as painting? etc? Also thinking the same for the cock p...

Re: Soft and blackened needs hardening and restoring

Thankyou both , a little worried by the frequent references to oxalic acid leaving a grey patch , any way of avoiding this?

Also , and I ams sure there is plenty of discussion about this , any tips to remove the black pa...

Store the mast upright leaning against a high wall or horizontally on a rack? Also, remove the rigging to store it dry or leave it in place....my w...

Re: Varnishing and so on

So I have been through all the advice and searched all over for the most cost effective method of getting a lovely finish to my Albacore...I had another suggestion, to use boiled linseed oil mixed with paraffin 50/50 , rub this in to the wood, the paraffin carries the oil in and evaporates...then us...

Re: Varnishing and so on

Thanks for everything so far - lots of varnishes I have looked at state "above waterline only"...should this be read as gospel - is there a product to varnish my hull - or does it not really matter?
