Garry,

Firstly a very Happy New Year.

You can get some very strong, transparent, self adhesive puncture repair patches from good bike shops that will do the job and are very cheap!

Good luck

Interesting topic this as I had only just asked a similar question on the OK website about bouyancy under the side decks. The response was: Quote: "Buoyancy. I have never felt that there is a need for any more buoyancy. Bags under the sidedecks would not help a lot. The boat already floats very...

The OK doesnt really fill up too drastically after a capsize and drains really easily, I know of a lot worse. Have a look at the OK Dinghy website and ask the question there as well, either way the OK is a delight to sail.

Garry, Once again very sound advice. Thank you. I just need to look at Diablo pictures of the king post to see how it is set up. I have many pictures (very sad) of modern merlin deck step arrangements from my Merlin Mag editor days but nothing of old/vintage boats. The intention was to fill the mast...

Nick,

That's great.

The mast I have is an old gold Proctor without spreaders would I need to do anything to the mast if I deck step other than cut it down to size?

Many thanks

Nick Boat looks great. Would there be any chance of some pics of the king post (the bit that supports the deck step) on Diablo as I was half thinking of converting 908 whilst is am in the process of my renovation. Reason being it will be esier to obtain 2nd hand deck stepped merlin masts than hog st...

Chris, The G4 route does seem an interesting interesting one. Am I correct that I read somewhere on this post that you must leave atleast a week for curing before applying any varnish on top of G4? I assume once it has cured (G4) a gentle wet & dry followed by varnish? How many coats would you r...

Thanks for all your replies. Quite an interesting split of opinion! The varnish route does appear to be the easiest although I doo keep getting drawn to using epoxy given the strong and hi-build quality as opposed to varnish and the number of coats required to build up to a decent finish. Alan/ how ...

I knew there was another question!!!

Old screw holes. I have filled some with a mix of microfibres and fine sawdust (saved from hours of rubbing decks) to get decent match are there any other fillers you could recommed with a quicker curing time?

Thanks again.

Epoxy or Varnish and other bits!

Hello, After some advice please. I am currently restoring Merlin 908 'Wishbone' a 1959 a Proctor XI built by Wyche & Coppock. Have already received some excellent advice from Mervyn Allen & Garry Rucklidge on hull and deck repairs, currently repalcing C/B ears and cap but wanted to ask other...
