Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Thanks for your suggestions with the lettering Jim, I have found the font available plus a few others that might work too. I will drop you an email . Still a while off deciding on colour, but the prep work has to be done anyway. A quick reminder of how it was. S3paintbefore.jpg Red may well be a fas...

Re: very cheap classic moth

Its certainly an Int Moth, but old enough to be sporting a low aspect rig. 3113 would be late 60's so just before the taller fully battened rig was allowed. Being fiberglass its likely to be a Duflos or Skol design?
Got to be worth a look Nessa

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Am really keen on following your project - do you mind if I steal one of your pictures No problem David, these pics were seriously reduced to fit in the forum limits, let me know which ones you want and I can email the full sizes if you want better quality. Jim, the Cherub hull shape looks very clo...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Red is ok, but I was hoping for a more 70's theme for a 1972 Nationals winning boat

Psychedelia, Glam Rock, that sort of image.

I'm not thinking of wearing platform sailing boots though!

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Thanks for the comments, I'm really pleased with the new look, proud to be plywood!

Yes I'm aiming to have it ready for Hunts, still a lot to do. I will be there with the Mag7 anyway.

So, any ideas on a colur scheme for the outside? I was thinking of putting some paint on this one !!!

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

A couple of very thin coats of varnish on the decks. Makes all the paint stripping and sanding worthwhile as the colour in the veneer starts to show.

Re: Moth Wings

Hi Michael, could you email the pics to me please?
 Magnum wings might be adaptable to fit the Stockholm Sprite.

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project

Long overdue an update. Conditions have not been suitable for curing resins in the garage recently, so its been difficult to move on much with the build. The hull fits neatly in the conservatory and its a lot warmer in there, but running the sander in the house would be a step too far! Messy stuff o...

Re: What kind of Moth is that?

Hello Colin, Yes we're very interested in all things Classic Moth. Its amazing how many are turning up recently and a lot of designs that we thought were long extinct. Any contributions to the chats are most welcome. Would you have any info on my Sprite, K3222? We know some of the history which is i...

Re: What kind of Moth is that?

A 90's carbon mast from Axeman - ignore the aluminium extension, (for occasional use on the magnum), boom would normally be bolted through bottom of the carbon heel plug. Length overall is about 17'6" 80's Ali Needlespar from Magnum. 2 1/4" dia and with jumper strut to brace the lower sect...

Re: What kind of Moth is that?

Jim, thats a lot more designs we hadn't considered! An intriguing record of development up to the mid 70's and a hint of things to come... Magnum - Latest design from M Cook. Early results very encouraging ...and pretty much won everything for the next 20 years! Europa - A rather dated design ideal ...

Re: What kind of Moth is that?

Sorry Ditta, I should have added any sail number would be on the outside of the hull, so port side panel just under deck level and a few inches in from the transom. Its an odd place compared to most conventional classes but with so many different hull and deck shapes and often no hog to carve a numb...

Re: What kind of Moth is that?

I think the chine confirms a Shelley influence and the winglets are much like a Skol Maybe the SKOLLEY has just been discovered? :D Many moths have sustained damage near the mast step due to serious rig failure where the tension is lost (terminal mast bend???) and the foot of the mast jumps the step...

Re: What kind of Moth is that?

Welcome Ditta, great to see another classic moth to be saved. It is a beauty, and an unusual deck layout for that era, so much like a 12 I would be tempted to check it really is only 11ft long! Sail number if it is on the hull, should be cut, carved or drilled into the port side near the transom. It...
