Re: Baltic Wharf 16 Nov
My thanks to everyone who turned up Despite miserable wind It was great to see everybody and share in the fun these classic dinghies bring. Iska (spelling) I we'll remember from sailing at Roadford and it was great to share moth talk and help from Lyndon and Ian. I don't know the official results bu...

Re: 2014 events!
A decade ago in Bristol there used to be a Bridge to Bridge race along the Avon, through the gorge and under Brunells suspension bridge. It involves an early launch from Shirehampton by the M5 motorway bridge and dash up with the tide to Bristol harbour to arrive at the dock at as near to high water...

Re: Baltic Wharf 16 Nov
I am very much looking forward to meeting you all. The CVRDA event is a real highlight for the club and the classic and vintage dinghies always look really good in the historic harbour, although it cannot be gainsayed that the winds can be fluky and light....BUT huge is the skill that lets a dinghy ...

Re: Budding writers needed
Hi Everyone, I too am a newcomer to the forum and postings. I posted comments about the need to bring all the disparate posting together in one place as a history, story, record. I hope I havent stepped on any bodies toes as its been well considered before. I wish I was more technologically savvy be...

Re: Budding writers needed
Hi Ed You are exactly right. I would be happy to manage a system if there was a system. Such a system if it exists would need some degree of automatic sorting and ordering. The problem in the Moth class and probably all the others as well is just that collating the information. The year books alone ...

Re: Budding writers needed
Hi Rupert, Only slightly tangentially there is already a huge amount of information in the various topics and posts within the forum of the CVRDA which , if it could be brought together in one document and with some chronology and order - class, design, build, sail quality, photos and antidotes and ...

Re: DO PROPRIETRY WOOD HARDNERS AND ROT KILLERS WORK
Thank you very much Rupert Ed and Simon for your kind advice, Encouragement helps and so I have made a start. I have removed almost all paint and all of the obvious rot. which seems to be confined to the stem for about 4 inches top an bottom as it were and I can stabilise with epoxy / hardener. I pl...

DO PROPRIETRY WOOD HARDNERS AND ROT KILLERS WORK
I am attempting a first restoration of a Magnum 5. At first sight it is basically sound BUT there appears to be some rot travelling along the internal layer (s) of ply. Obviously the best solution is to cut out and replace all areas in doubt but this is beyond my skill. However I can A) Cut scrape a...

RE TIGER MOTH
I understood that John made her for him and his partner and that it was an ( almost) straight forward magnification or rather scale up of another design - presumably a magnum - but which ?
I also understood that it was felt that this scaling up dint really work.
Cheers

I can't go to Windsor but I can arrange storage of mast easily and almost certainly boom sail with Baltic Wharf Sailing Club if that helps.

Re: Moth Roll Call
This sounds a great idea but could we start by emailing a data base list for all moth owners to complete and send on. Is this technically possible ? We need a design history to tell the development story of this extraordinary class from Olive topperish shape to fully flying aerodynamic flyers is a t...

Re: Carbon Mast
Hi Ian
It's very strong stiff and practically unused. I don't know what it's worth more importantly who owns it. It was loaned to me in 2007 when mine broke downwind at Guarda. I have posted in the Moth Class and if there is no response will sell for say £300?
Cheers Alan

Wanted Magnum 8 or EARLIER.
I am also looking for an early low rider and my earlier post should have read earlier rather than later in the subject line. So if anyone out there has an early Moth - preferably a Magnum for sale please please let me know.
Cheers Alan

Re: MAGNUM 9.9 (bolt rope) Handicap
Hi Ian, I think that's very good advice so 1000 it is to start with. Its great fun sailing a moth but racing against different classes on handicap is usually not too satisfactory. The key to speed is the tack and gybe, while speed varies disproportionally with wind speed. Anyway I am looking forward...
