Ah yes Cornwall...

This is the Utopia to which my boyhood memories return. Sandy beaches, rock pools, and windblown grassy cliffs of Tintagel and Trebetherick.

Devenish and St Austell breweries were late additions.

What chance have we of a richly equipped Beach livesaver culture like our antipodean friends?

Talking of lifesavers and rowing I found this picture. Looks like fun to me!

Like the Tideway on a calm day I'd say!

A friend of mine is a volunteer at the Skegness station and earlier this year he gave a facinating presentaton about Coastwatch and its work. Basically they cover the local "watching" duties that the Coastguard used to perform. Keeping an eye on swimmers, fishermen and sailors whether on the water or on shore. More details are available from their website http://www.nci.org.uk/

A talk by a member could make for an interesting winter's evening at your club.

We are an Island Nation never far from the sea or its heritage and influence.

I was thinking in more prosaic terms of dragging someone several hours away from where they live to talk to a bunch of pond sailors! In more poetic terms, I agree entirely!
