Did anyone see the BBC news yesterday morning, a shot or two in grainy B&W film of two young dinghy sailors in 1963 with a home made ice yacht, a road trailer with irons welded on (Front steering.) on a Merlin Rocket mast and Firefly sails, I'll see if I can find the pictures though along with the Mini Minor Racing on the Broad pictures they seem to have disappeared.
This winter is shaping up to be a 1963 but I wonder if safety concious risk averse authorities will let us do it this time? The ice yachts are out on the Danish Lakes for the first time since 1963 very CVRDA even gaff rigs!
WE should try to enjoy this Gobal Warmimg.

If Danish Ice Yachts out for first time since 1963.....where have they been stored in the meantime?
Have the danes kept them for 45 years....waiting for another year with freezing lakes? Impressed if so!
cheers

In brief yes, bear in mind that there is a lot of old money in Denmark and with it family coach and boat houses CVRDA and Veteran Motoring Heaven.

Re: Ice Yachting
I remember reading an article in wooden boat mag maybe 20 years ago about the ice boats in the 2nd video there. They were designed to sail over rougher ice than the traditional lookin ice yachts, and could even sail over holes in the ice without sinking. Must dig out the article again - I expect my father still has the mag.
