Hate to sound like the Ancient Mariner BUT - if you don't have to, don't.
Two winters ago I went to Burghfield SC mid winter to get some publicity shots of the HALO (big Blaze). The kind folks at Burghfield sent an alloy hulled rescue boat to 'break the ice for me' but I can confirm that it was a less than pleasureable experience. A shame, as the boat itself was very good, but with the big rig it picked up speed quickly, even in light airs. The apparent wind was biting.... we got the pics then dashed back ashore for hot soup!
Think today is a day for being on shore watching someone else freeze...
