would the presence of a new fangled material such as titanium in an olde boate mean it would instantly be out of class?
I hope not, because they've just screwed some into the back of my hand....
rehab = until next Thursday in a plaster cast, then 6-7 weeks in a fibreglass cast (not waterproof ) then the k wires come out, whatever they are, then I get some x rays done and we see what's what.
I can expect 75% of original strength and 75% of mobility to return . but not for six months .
no idea when I will be sailing again but hopefully when I'm back, I'm back for good!
out of class?

Nope. My 1974 Bethwaite wing mast has titanium spreaders!Nessa wrote:would the presence of a new fangled material such as titanium in an olde boate mean it would instantly be out of class?
Good luck with the recovery...
Re: out of class?
Bionic bits probebly wouldn't be allowed in an Olympic campaign, but I think we'll let you off for cvrda stuff... Good luck with the rehab!

There must be a RS joke here somewhere
Re: out of class?
probably something along the lines of not knowing my RS from my elbow....
this is the second lower arm injury to be inflicted on a Hunts instructor by the lovely Vision.....strangely, it is not a popular boat.

Re: out of class?
This question surely hinges on the nature of the material, and how it affects the hullshape.
There are plenty of medical examples of "Olde Boates" that were somewhat out of class in the first plase having modern materials added to improve their natural bouyancy to gain an advantage (+)(+) -> (.)(.) !!
One should rember that some of these may need removal before the "Olde boat" is thrown on the fire, though titanium is I am sure unlikely to present a problem....
There are many out there who have sufficient trinkets lying in the bottom of their urns to influence the futures market in the China, while Evel Kneivel must have had enough electrochemical potential to go up like a Railway Thermit!

I believe the Mary Rose is supported by titanium too.
All the best for your recovery.
