I habitually go with Noble - not necessarily the cheapest, but they do it right when the worst happens and you have to make a claim.

Looked at Noble last time, got put off by the price.

The problem with Merlins is all these carbon mast breakages, the insurance companies just decide the ali one is as likely to break.

Not fair on any classic owner I reckon, especially as classic owners are generally more carefull than the plastic owners.

Bishop Skinner (aka Bluefin) have always been the favourite Merlin insurer - some companies wouldn't even consider a Merlin a few years ago. If you've more than one boat they'll put them on the same policy and give a discount and also a discount for RYA membership. If you talk to them rather than go online you'll probably do better as you can explain that it's an old non-carbon boat.

I'll have to look, sledgehammer is completely ali and will stay that way.

Seventh heaven may end up with a carbon mast for merlin meets.

Multiboat discount sounds like a good idea to me.

Definitely talk to them, otherwise your classic will get lumped in with all the other out and out racing machines. I am with Noble who are always excellent, let me have a multiboat policy and assess each boat on its merits, not by class statistics.

The insurance on my two old Merlins was halved when I talked to Bishop Skinner (now Bluefin). The premiums had gone through the roof when the modern (and in some cases not so modern) carbonised Merlins started to claim against their very breakable carbon masts. I explained that I had no carbon, never would get one on the boats and the quote became sensible. I thought this was very sensible.

Will give blue fin a call tomorrow. Has anyone ever used towergate and mardon?

Craft insure seen to have the best price so far.

I have FB6 insured with Craftinsure at a reduced premium due to lower risk profile (no trapeze or spinnaker). They're very happy to chat things through and the premium has hardly changed over the years.

Both GP's with Craft insure despite reduced rate for Association member its daylight thievery. Insure a 130mph motorcycle for less. Rip off.

Probably paying about £1 an hour in insurance, Rip off.

I've recently stopped using Noble and started using GJW, as on the front of the Y&Y site. Whether this is wise I'll only find out after a claim, as Noble are very good, but with 8 boats to insure, the cost was too much.

Craft insure wont even consider a reduction for the ali rig. Towergate and Mardon have a good price but I dont know what they would be like after a claim. No multiboat either but they are cheaper with the 2 seperately than a combined with others.

I have used Towergate and Mardon for my Merlin. But I have never had to claim from them.

I orignially found them as they were recommended on the RYA website.

So if they were recomended by the RYA then I would how that they will be alright should I ever have to claim.

Still not managed to get better than them insuring two boats seperately than others combined.
