Our very own Peter V is currently taking on the might of the world's slightly older Finn sailors at La Rochelle - all 274 of them! Must be quite an event.

Can't spot Mr Vinton, though...
Must have been an amazing event to have been a part of, though.

Sorry not to have featured in the official report! 150 boat fleets in waves and strong winds are challenging, I learnt a lot!

Re: Go, Peter Go!
Ok,
300 boats split randomly into 2 fleets. Committee boat in the middle of the start line and so 2 pin end boats. Well offshore so no transits and very difficult to judge line. If the wind shifts to one end and you're at the other you're stuffed! Lumpy and windy, when a Finn needs weight but there were plenty of other lightweights around from countries where they don't sail in breeze. Best results in the lighter winds though. Tried to stay in double figures and managed to. Easy to get in trouble at marks with about 30 boats around you at each one, but big gains to be made if you got it right. Generally I was losing on each upwind then gaining boats on each reach, run and mark. Learnt lots and came home with a list of jobs to do to set the boat up better.
