Finally got the time to get to the revitalised Arthur Beale Chandlery on Shaftsbury Avenue and spend a happy 20 mins poking around. They currently have Epihanes at £28 for 1.2litres (also on mail order), found some interesting tools there - got a very nice Japanese Shinto Saw Rasp for £19.
They are owned by Flints Theatrical Chandlers, picked up their catalogue, full of interesting tools and other stuff. Worth a visit if in London, they are keen to talk classic boat stuff.

Re: Arthur Beale chandlery
God, I am amazed they are still there.....
Many a happy hour I have spent digging around.
They always seemed to have a totally different set of suppliers to every other chandlery, so a great place to find strange stuff. Things always seemed remarkably reasonably priced, considering the rates they must have to pay.

Re: Arthur Beale chandlery
ordered some varnish off them the other day, together with a load of sundries. The epiphanes varnish was nearly £10 cheaper per 500ml than some other online shops.
Even with a delivery charge of £14 it was still very reasonable.

Re: Arthur Beale chandlery
I finally made the trek; I was asked if I had had trouble finding them, and replied that it had taken me 45 years! Epifanes 1.2 litres square can £28.50. The purist may note that they have three strand cotton rope in dinghy sheet sizes... also ship's biscuits!
