National 18

Post by JB9 »

I have admired this class for a long time. There are some really good photos on their website:-

Gosh....don't covet the old N18....as nice as it is.

You already own the best 18ft-er ever made

just practice a smug grin.

The others just don't know what they are missing

cheers

A modern glass one of these has turned up at our club recently. I havn't seen it out yet and I guess they will only sail her in the knowledge that when they finish it will be high tide otherwise they will have a long uphill walk pulling her! A few years ago we had a clench built one at the club but that disappeared. Our 18' BOD's are put on swinging moorings with a couple dry sailed but towed to the hard by tractors. I presume that at clubs where they are sailed as a class they have the organisation to lift them in and out easily.

I have to say that I like the look of them.

Trevor,
Some brilliant photographs there, I particularly like the 1989 Findhorn one of no. 319 apparently about to capsize on top of her crew in a death-roll, and the lads in the foreground lifejackets are beyond compare. Great stuff.
I had a chance to buy N18 No. 3 once, for sale at Woolverstone on the River Orwell, but didn't know anyone daft enough to sail it with me so let it go.
Cheers

The BOD's Jonathan is referring to is the Brightlingsea One Dsign the best of all the 18 footers of that type. :D

No bias then, Dave? As always, correct, though.

Jonathan has sent some photos of BODs which I've added to the gallery at
http://www.cvrda.org/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=35

I've only ever seen the transoms before as they disappear away in front at fine speed!

Tamesis have a number of national 18s moored in front of the clubhouse.
