Vintage Firefly on YouTube

Post by Rod »

I thought this might have got a mention on this forum by now.

Vintage Firefly video on YouTube.

I'll send you through my blog but if you want to go directly to YouTube, double click on the image should do it (if you have set your browser up to launch another window).

Two of the comments were trying to find out more on this club.

What a brilliant old film! I think the music came from the BBC radio Hornblower adaptation (I happen to have a copy). At a guess, sail No 2088 = mid to late 50s ?

The steelworks closed in 2002. The nearest clubs now are Merthyr Tydfil and Llangorse so maybe someone there knows what happened to the club (and the cooling lake).

Excellent - with all the "jolly hockey sticks" narration we were used to with Pathe News all those years ago!!

By the handbook of 1988, F2088 had her last know address as the RTB General Works Club, but with no record of how long ago she had last been heard from. The name had been changed, though, at some point, to Brynmawr. I've posted the link to the Firefly site, so we will have to see if anything more comes up there.
