Mirror on steriods or a Sidney Harbour Skiff?
Re: Mirror on steriods or a Sidney Harbour Skiff?
Certainly no 18 footer in that although transom bowed skiffs weren't unknown... Some sort of marsh/punt ancestry perhaps?

And I thought it was a skip.

It looks a bit like an old Watchet Flatner - a flat bottomed boat used by fisherman, key characteristic being the flat bottom that enabled it to be dragged over the mud at low tide. the flatner had centreboard/keelthings on both sides so it could be sailed across the shallows too.

Certainly ugly, certainly not worth the asking price.
Simples.

I recognise her from somewhere, but I just can't think where. As for ugly, why? And a big 18 foot boat for less than £500? If that is what is wanted, a bargain. There are certain boats regared as good looking that I can't see what the fuss is about, so I'm not sure the word "certainly" can be used in that context.

This reminds me of the song from Cabaret, (with the Gorrilla)Rupert wrote:I recognise her from somewhere, but I just can't think where. As for ugly, why? ...

Sadly no U-tube clips of the real Alan Cumming version from the film except sound clips.
Quite a good amatuer version here though...

Not a flatner. A rare boat but there's several at the Watchet Boat Museum. They have a sharp bow and stern on the larger boats (similar to a dory) and a transom stern on the smaller ones but still a sharp bow.

I used to live just up the road from Watchet Boat Museum. Free entry and well worth a visit if you're in that neck of the woods. Small, but some interesting stuff.
