Jacksnipe, Pacer, Mirror16 and Vagabond

Post by davidh »

Hi everyone.

Does anyone out there have access to 'good' pictures of the above boats. I've got some scans of magazine photos, but these never really give very clear quality. What I'm after is primary material, a photograph that has been scanned or can be scanned to produce a high resolution image.

Probably the hardest will be the Jacksnipe - though we used to have a follower on here fro out in Switzerland who still had one..... if you are still with us Sir (whoever you are) - then HELP!

From the mix of the classes above, this is clearly related to Jack Holt, so at the same time shots of Holt Merlins, 12s, 14s and Canoes (Ed has already had emails from me re Conquest)

All will become clear (I hope) very soon

Regards- and thanks in anticipation

We had a Pacer at Shearwater last year. If he joins this year I'll make sure to get some pictures.

They are all, except the Vagabond, illustrated in the Boat World guide to Dinghies, 1971, in black and white............

Cweed,

indeed they are and I have other shots from various magazine. But you loose much in detail when trying to scan from a magazine! Sometimes you have to as there is no other choice.

What I'm after now is something from a primary source - an original photo that can be scanned to produce a picture in reasonable high resolution!

Bob, you're a star and yes please - I'll drop you my email address.

The reason for the requests will soon be clear but it is good and an interesting possible project that will have good potential for the classic scene in the year to come!

Keep them coming guys (and ladies)

David, I have 2 pacers....both in progress projects, one wooden, stripped of paint and fittings and looking poorly, and one grp with all the wood trim removed and full of green slime at present........it depends whether you want to show construction or pretty pics. I can take pics as they are and you can tell me if it is worth cleaning up the grp one to take better pics if this is any help, but I would think you would probably do better round the boat-parks with a camera? Happy to help if I can though :)

There is an Australian site that has a lot of pictures of the Pacer. http://www.pacersailing.org.au/
Someone there could probably send you high res file. You can even get a set of plans there, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks _ I'll check this out.

I'm pretty sure that the NMM at Falmouth hold almost all of the Holt plans - the master sets anyway.

Hi Dave
Eileen Ramesey Did all the publicity photos for the Mirror 16. Try contacting her archives the holders of which were at the Dinghy Show.
