what is it?

Post by Max McCarthy »

Hi everyone,

I found this on the 'bay, and I don't think it is a vixen, it looks more like the boats name, does anyone know or have any ideas? As I can't think of what it is.

Thanks,
Max

EDIT: unless it is a vixen of course, I have never heard of one, if it is, does anyone know anything about it?

The Ebay one looks very continental to me in which case I'm sure our friend Lasertourist will be able to tell us more about it.
Best wishes

A Fennec, perhaps, given the name?

It is indeed a late version of the fennec , by french dinghy (and crash helmets) maker Dupuy Chautard ...must be some forty years old , but recognizable specially the characteristic double hatches in the bulkhead in front of the mast....

The rounder fore deck is distinctive too

I woudn't fit that boat with a Mirror rig, clearly it needs more power, something like 11 or 12 Square meters would be better.

The fennec had a tamer version called the fox , basically same hull but smaller rig (and shorter ears for the fox head on the sail logo!)...both had been thought for car topping with a 2 parts mast.

This one needs also a cross beam / bench fitted over the centreboard case and on the side tanks

An ad for an earlier fennec version , with daggerboard instead of pivoting one...but still the trademark round hatches
