I have stripped & veneer repaired the Fairey Duckling that a friend very kindly gave to me to restore for teaching my two young granddaughters to saicl and I have found the number 977 punched into the inner face of the wooden transom immediately below the stern seat thwarts. Would this be the hull build number does anyone think? I would have guessed that perhaps Fairey Marine actually built over 1000 Ducklings? But thinking about it a thousand boats is rather a large production run? Does anyone have any information please?
If this is the actual hull number then perhaps I should have this number put onto the relatively new sail that my friend also provided? I would appreciate any comments that members could make?
Thanks,
Wilf Bishop

Re: Fairey Duckling Hull Moulding Numbers
I'd have thought that there were many more than 1000 Ducklings built - not sure who would have the info now.
Chances are that the number you have found is a hullnumber, and will probebly be different to the sail number, as Faireys built in batches.

Inner side of transom is a typical place for a Fairey Shell number.
I guess there could of been a thousand Ducklings made......I wouldn't of guessed that many, but it is certainly possible.

Re: Fairey Duckling Hull Moulding Numbers
I came across an old Fairey Owners Club posting reporting that over 2000 Fairey Ducklings had been made - this information evidently came from Charles Currey who was Fairey Marine's Technical Director I think?
