Thanks PaulM - Fenton Hill Marine is the name that escaped me. My dad worked there around 1969/71. Wht a blooming long time ago..... The Flying Saucer has lasted pretty well!

This boat is, in fact, called a Flying Saucer. An attempt at a 2 man (Fireball type) high performance dinghy by American sailboat megalith, O'Day Corp. I even met the designer many years ago. An extremely talented man. this just may not may have been one his better efforts.
Since it never sold well in the US (or at least to O'Day standards), I doubt any made it to the UK. There is at least one other US dinghy called Flying Saucer that was built in even smaller numbers. So it doesn't surprise me that that there yet more that share this name elsewhere. Maybe the name generated more excitement at that time than it does now.

I love the CVRDA forum. I hope to, one day, be able to identify a mystery boat before someone else does. But it seems unlikely.
