16ft Clinker sailing dinghy

Post by nward »

Turtle2.jpg
I have just purchased a 16ft clinker sailing dinghy with the E.R.Elikins badge on the transom.
She was built in 1936 and in very good condition. The old owner said she was a Poole One Design but I can't find any info on these as yet.
I am looking for more background info or original plans. I think she might have started life with a bow sprit and gaff or gunter rig.
Hope anybody can help.
Can't seem to load an image.
Cheers

She may be a Poole Dolphin. Here are a few images of them racing at Poole YC. See if you agree?

If so, from memory the club has several and try and keep them with owners sailing in Poole harbour.

Might be worth contacting them for history and plans.

She is a pretty boat - I bet you enjoy sailing her!

More links to history etc. in the left sidebar there.

Nward,

I'm currently doing a series in Yachting World on 'local One Designs' and have my eye firmly fixed on the Poole Dolphins as a future subject (come to think of it, that may not be so long into the future either!). Watch this space!!
