A Wizard.......saw one of these at a show somewhere many years ago. I also spotted it, rang the owner, and I'm thinking about it......but what does one do with it? Annoying, as I was in Poole yesterday and could easily have looked at it if it had been available then.

Where does the mast sit ?
2 weeks ago I was "T" boned by a Topaz, the boat went through until stopped by dagger board, this Wizard would have probably have chopped boat in half.

I switched the computer off after I got black looks from Lynne when I "casually" mentioned it.......I fully expected to see that one of you had bought it? I do hope it ends up with someone connected on here....interesting dinghy.

Sami...in this case I can but say "well done Lynne"! I knew the Wizard and as soon as nessa pinged me with a message that this boat was for sale, I locked myself away in one room with my laptop in another - just in case!. There are some boats that are simply best avoided - The Bell Flyer is one, this is another.

If we still had DSM I'd look long and hard at a 'the ten boats to avoid like the plague' series. I'm not being overly harsh but there is a certain Darwinian process at work here. Some boats fail when they deserve a better fate (mirror 14 being a good example) yet there are others that linger on, never getting any better, you really are forced to wonder how they do it. Then there are boats that scarcely get past the prototype stage and these are the ones that just didn't work!

No, Moths and so many other great classics out there but this wasn't one of them!

Go on David - tell us about the Wizard - if only so that I can update the Dinghy Database and fill that empty page http://www.cvrda.org/wp-cvrda/dinghydata/wizard/

"Ten boats that should have been exposed on the mountainside at birth" might be an interesting thread, but possibly one that might generate a bit too much acrimony. Personally I'd put the 5 Tonner at the top of the list...

@Alan. Too harsh! Neither boat is a great fave of mine either, but they both have enough followers to have gained some element of success. The question would need to be made clear: 'The worst racing dinghies every designed' or 'The dinghies I most hate'. Very different questions I reckon.

Although....what was that weird single-hander that was on ebay recently....that was really truly horrible!
