Yet another ID

Post by Dino »

Spotted this on an Irish ad website https://www.donedeal.ie/sailing-for-sal ... y/11966535
Anyone recognise it? I'm not interested in it but just curious.

It's a german boat called Kolibri (humming bird)
Interestigly enough the manufacturere was called Atlanta and made a great hit in germany with a bigger boat (14ft ) called koralle

The Koralle was very light , cartopable and had a very unusual feature : twin pivoting centreboards in the sides of the buoyancy tanks. The idea was to have an uncluttred cockpit, and one coud even sleep in his beached boat when cuising around the bavarian lakes.
A small hatch in the frear deck allowed for a very small outboard engine to be fitted but the Koralle was a lively boat under sail not a heavy lazy cruiser and the racing verion had a Manfred Curryesque full batten mainsail.

Both Kolibri and Koralle had remarkably cooking apliance like handles on the transom (chromed bronze fittings)

The early Koralle were molded wood (like albacore or FD) the later ones GRP . The Kolibri was only made in GRP
