Jack Holt Ideal Dinghy

Post by Aztec »

We have recently been donated a complete kit for an Ideal Dinghy. The kit dates from 1979.
The Ideal is stitch and glue construction 12ft 3in long and is like a stretched Mirror.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to how many were built and still exist? We plan to construct this winter.

You may have already seen this on the boatdesign.net forums (from 2006)

"I recently bought a book “Build and sail your own boat” by Norman Dahl, which is really about the building of Jack Holt’s “Ideal” dinghy, a 12’ 3” general purpose pram, used in the Ulster TV series of the same name in the mid-1970s."

Yesterday I met a 20yr old from Poole harbour who had purchased an 'Ideal' and restored it. He said there was another on ebay not long ago. I had never heard of it, so went looking for photos and only found this page!!!
