Hi,
I have found that one of the knees on my Enterprise has rotted, and needs replacing. all my previous dinghys have been 100% GRP so my knowledge of marine timber is limited.
Can anybody offer some advice on the correct wood to use and where is best to buy it from.
many Thanks
Rotten Wood

Re: Rotten Wood
I'd have thought it will be a piece of Mahogany. These days many different woods are sold as Mahogany, and for some jobs it matters which one you use. For a knee, it will make little odds. Best bet is to take the old bit along to a timber merchant who sells such things and get a colour match. Robbins in Bristol is good, but there are usually local ones if you look hand enough.

Re: Rotten Wood
yeah, pull the old one out and find out what it is.
You can ask in a good wood merchant. or take some photos and post here.
As rupe says, most probably Mahogany of some kind.
Much of what is sold as Mahogany these days is not awfully nice - try and steer clear of the worst - things like Meranti. But if you have to go for a cheaper bit, then make sure you see it first as it does vary rather a bit.
