Stain for under Two Pot Varnish.

Post by Shanty Man »

The rudder stock for my Solo is a rather pale "mahogany" ply. Do not know if this as it always was or is sun faded. :?: I would like to make it a darker "red" before covering with two pot. International say it cannot be done but they have stopped supplying stains although they used to do a Blue Peter range. I still have a can. Anyone know of a suitable stain. Could always go for a one pot varnish but as foils and tiller will be 2 pot would prefer not to.

any spirit based wood-stain will work.

I have got a few both the Rustins and another make - name escapes me.

In a range of colours - Red mahogany, Peru Mahognany, Light Oak, yellowy pine.

I mix and match to get the colour I want.

try and test a small bit first if you can and remember the colour does tend to change after you varnish it.

cheers
