Rupert,

me too................ nor can I remember why!

Jim C... I was not trying to suggest a Gull - the hull is just too round for that.

Just hunting down dimensions of the Firebird dinghy

The inboard shrouds and jib sheeting position make me wonder if it might have had a large overlapping jib... It seems quite unlike UK practice in that area, I wouldn't be suprised at a continental origin. What brands are fittings that seem original?

There is a description in Burrett's of a Musard, which is 11'6" long, round bottomed, and has a low overlapping jib, made in France. Sort of hand drawn M on the sail. No picture, though, so could be totally different. Anyone come across one?
Beam 4' 11", which is almost right...

Not easy to tell but I would say not quite the same.

I have has a look at the Musard picture, it is not that boat.
The mystery goes on.
Is there anything else I could do to assist you all?
Thanks again.

The musard has ben discussed on a french forum , as a semi mystery boat , it had a rotating europe-like mast , but was different from this boat

http://www.nauticaltrek.com/index.php?id=8526

There were a host of littles dinghies in the 12 ft bracket in France with a semi traditional breton round bilge boat and different buoyancy tanks /decks ..etc layouts(apachen musard zef marmot,...and so many others ) in the mid 60"s some with very limited production runs.
The wooden reinforcements on the transom are similar to those on the MK1 and MK 2 zef ...
but it is not a zef either.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
I do not know if it helps but the hull seems to be made up of a stringer type construction which you can see when standing back and looking down the hull. The boat is also very light weight .
Regards again.
