Replacing damaged planking

Post by smudge100 »

Can anyone help I am restoring Merlin Rocket 2127 and need to repair some damaged palnks and I am having trouble in removing the damaged areas without damaging the adjacent planks. Any suggestions gratefully received

Jigsaw as big a bit out as possible.

use a small saw or gentlemens saw to cut through the lands adjacent to hole...

then use the sharp chisels

There is no real rules to doing this, you just have to take care and go gently.

But remove as much as you can first with jigsaw.

An invaluable tool for working on planking scarfs, taking rivet heads of etc is a Black & decker Powerfile like a mini belt sander with a 12mm wide belt, good on plywood too.

Indeed - nice tool.

Have gone off Black'n'decker a bit after being told they have a design life of 40-50 hours...

The Makita power-file as sold by Axmister is twice as expensive, but I suspect would last longer.

I am still saving up for the Makita.
