Simoune 485 in SWEDEN help please......

Post by mercury »

Hi!
Sten from Sweden here.
Newbe to this forum so please be kind.
I`ve bought a 485, year un known.
It must be the one and only 485 here in Sweden, newer seen any one more.
The former owner stripped the boat of all "extras" to be able to sail the boat alone.
No trapetz and so on.
I would really apriciate if any 485 owner have any picture to share.
I bought a new swivel base and some new blocks, but in need of photoes.

Hi Sten,
many of us here are old plastic dinghy fans - they can be just as interesting (and often more practical) than wooden ones!
Laser tourist might be your best bet for answering these questions, though.

One of our French members. He has been immersed in European boat culture in a way that we in Britain never have been!
There may even be posts already that are helpful, if you search?

I suggest that you try the French site http://445et485.free.fr/

This is a site for enthusiasts of both the 445 & 485 dinghies. It has a forum, a gallery, tuning guides, and an archive which includes diagrams and historical documents.

I have a scan of an article about the Simoun 4.85 from the French magazine BATEAUX dated Septembre 1968. If you let me have your email address I'll send it to you........

Hi,

I'm sorry but I was away when you placed your first post.

I've some information on the 485 on my website, go to
http://www.bearfacemedia.co.uk

and then look at the menu for 'European Dinghies'.

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/lenclume/

This is the site of a guy in france who restored a 485 (and at some point fitted a 505 rig which is a sensible thing to do because riginal masts by STRUCTURAL were corrosion prone)
the boat is called l'enclume (the anvil) probably because of its weight)

First generation 485 had a big step in the double bottom, a crest / back Fin in the foredeck to stiffen it an a bendy plastic mast gate, later on,es had a ner flush double bottom, a stainless steel tube mast gate and a faired foredeck

485 is a good boat, somewhat heavy and is suffering from the traditional Gouteron problem , the wood stringers between hull and ouble bottom.
A dry stored and loved for boat will be OK but a boat stored for yars in a damp boatpark will be very soft

Spares can be obtained on the aforementioned 445 / 485 website.

I have two complete 445/485 rudders to sell cheap and dhand sails may be obtained from nord voile in northern France

Rudderstock is same as 445 (i have two for sale , with rudder blades in poor conditions, fotr cheap)
