As my friend did with a fairey, you should paint the hull purple, the decks mauve and then kit yourself out completely in pink or mauve sailing kit.
and rename it "Somebody Else's Problem" ??

Ed,

If you don't like the gunwales maybe you could remove the front 3 or 4 foot of them (like on my vanguard) and then paint the rest of them to match the hull - according to some of the Comet fleet at Severn SC my boat "looks evil/sinister" (I took it as a compliment!) - so that might be a good pimp?

One other thought - where are your centreboard control lines led to? If they aren't already perhaps you could lead them to the side decks like the devotis etc. My old 60s plastic finn is like this - I think Graham set it up before he sold it to me and it works rather well - would reccomend at leat 8mm rope though.

Cheers,
Keith.

Hi Keith,

Absolutely right!

I really like the way the gunwhales have been removed on the front of your Finn.....and it was that boat that gave me the idea to do just that. When (if) it ever goes in the workshop.....I will certainly do that.....maybe front and back so only left covering the cockpit area.

As for the lines for the c-plate....yes will consider that too. At moment the elastic down-pull is so hard that I pretty much have to stand up to get enough welly to do it.

cheers

I note that you have yet to add the Finn onto your list of boats following your signature or are you concerned about webspace!!

OK....

who was it mentioned the mast step??

you must of jinxed it!

Saw the mast foot was loose at bottom of run and turned up onto the beat.....quickly realised I needed to come in.

Got to about a boat length from the beach when it started blowing a hooly.....then crack, the mast foot broke out and with it the deck, deck-ring etc etc.

So now I have a rather big and ragged hole where there used to be a mast-hole.....and the mast-step is broken right out.

So it looks like the pimping is going to be rather sooner than I had planned.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................

Don't even have room in the workshop at the moment.

Blast it

Sorry Ed - it was me....

at least I did not get the damage to my deck that you have as I got to dockside before the mast came down. But I am glad I did not go for one more fast reach as I had been planning to do!!

Sorry to hear that Ed, particularly as it was your low maintenance boat.
I would think that a simple repair to glass up the deck again would be fairly quick and easy. My first Finn, a Tiptree had suffered the same, a new section was moulded and bolted in. When it happenned to Django I put an adjustable mast gate in mainly because it was a lot simpler.
