My eye is really coming on well for woodwork now. Feel happy with the wood. Genuine Black Country School Oak Table. Probably older than Caltha.

Mast has gone in ok, mino work on the (modern) standing rigging.

Buoyancy, I'll bang a big bow crewsaver bag in under the fordeck and keep a lookout for another small one to go in front of frame 1 and a square one to go under the aft deck. Hopefully that wont be too obvious. I will make the side bags easily removeable somehow.

Same for the tow straps. I will rig webbing under the thwart and leed the straps through and fasten them to the frame 4 with a plate with wing nuts, so I can take them out in a few mins. Not safe on the mersey without them.

Most of the straps and buoyancy now fitted. Just the rudder pintles and floorboards to sort. Say just. currently over a month on the floorboards, horrendus job, really realy complicated. All 14 support bearers now made up and cutting, routing and thicknessing the planks ready for fitment.

Some idea of cost (No idea on the sheer complication)

supports (free salvage) but i reckon 1 sq meter of 1 inch Oak ~ £80
planks £85
Screws (bronze) £23
Glue ~ not inc
G4 - £20
half a tin of Schooner £15

say 210 quid!

No wonder later boats had 1 peice ply ones. But hey the joys of old boats, I guess its only labour and traditonal materials that are now expensive.

Kev,

Thanks for the blow by blow account. Now all we need is one of her on the water. Lovely job.

I dont think my geep is going to get quite that level of TLC but she comes home soon and I have a smart new workshop so I am running out of excuses.

She does look great. A perfect example of what was being discussed on the handicaps thread - a boat where everything - mast, sails, fittings, layout - fits beautifully together and has been planned for beauty and originality, not for speed. I really hope to meet her at an event soon!

Thanks guys, kind words. Im happy with her. A few jobs I wanna do over the winter. Ive got the keel band to drill and fit, I want to give the hull another coat and probably the decks too. The Centreboard is still all floppy, needs padding out more.

Feels weird as shes down the club now. Big empty space on the path, really weird. Feel like something missing.

One for the bucket list I guess restored a classic boat - DONE!

Gaz,
Let you know. One of the guys in scouts wants to put his boat in somewhere inland, so i may tag along. Go to Manley Mere or Sale or West kirby or Crosby???
