Last year a pair of GRP burgashell coxed fours went on ebay for the princely sum of £29 they were sectional boats.
I had the wild idea of bolting the two bow sections together decking the footwells in then turning it into a flying proa with a large crab claw rig, would have needed a bit of reinforcing but it sure would have been fun. My other half threatened divorce so i didnt bid.
Still fancy doing it though!
Restoring an old timber rowing VIII
Re: Restoring an old timber rowing VIII
Somewhere on YouTube, there is footage of a guy on the Swiss lakes, who took a four and built a sailing canoe on it, with if I remember correctly an asymmetric. Sliding seat to keep it all down flat.
there was talk about it on the IC site a few years ago.
Don't think it was a great success, but agreed it would be a laugh.

Re: Restoring an old timber rowing VIII
I guess you could do an 8 as a centre hull and single sculls as outriggers as a big trimaran, but I'm not sure what the turning circle would be like?!

Has to be a flying proa, too much stress on it otherwise, built one years ago, most fun you could have with your clothes on!

Question.
How on earth does he come inboard to bag the kite without falling over(the boat that is). Looks great fun though.

Not sure....
....suspect there is a bloody big lump of lead under a fin keel?
Otherwise, as you say....how would it ever stay upright.

Re: Restoring an old timber rowing VIII
perhaps you could fit a car engine with a screw on the propshaft like in Indo-china, that should make it go.
