Covers

Post by Michael4 »

Anyone have any recommendations for someone who makes sensibly priced good quality over boom covers?

My recomendation is always to approach a local sail-loft and ask them....

You could try Sail Register: http://www.sailregister.co.uk/

My only advice is that with a tideway, it is worthwhile measuring it out and getting a custom one made. Tideways are a pretty loose one-design and you may well find quite a bit of variation between boats, so avoid standard covers......this is all said with more than a little 'past personal experience'.

though the last cover (form my Megabyte) I bought was from http://waveloft.com/

very happy with the service from both

Thanks, I will ask around.

Good point about checking fit on a 'loose' one design...for reasons I won't go into (but you can probably guess) I have two of these boats now and they are very different from each other.

I guess a cover for a wooden boat should be breathable? Or is this an old wives tale?

Chris Gould at creation covers is pretty good. Covers made to measure and seems to do covers for a lot of the Merlin and Osprey fleets, plus many others.

Just been through the interweb, and Sail Register appear to be the cheapest. Whether they are they best value, I'm not sure. Very impressed by the Poly cotton Firefly cover (we need a new one after 15+ years) but less so with the PVC ones for the Lightning.

I got a new Sail Register cover for my newly refurbished contender. I asked for an extra long flap at the back to protect the transom which is really good. I always them or Rain and Sun.
