Oxalic acid

Post by Michael4 »

On the internet I read that oxalic acid can be effective in removing weathering stains from wood before varnishing.

I do not always trust what I read in the internet...

I'm stripping what's left of the varnish off the inside of a clinker boat and will probably give it the Deks Olje D1 treatment.

So has anyone used oxalic acid on mahogany and oak and does it really work?

Hi, I have effectively used oxalic acid for removing rust stains from terylene sails with no apparent ill effects so it should be good for wood.

I stuff I used was DAVIS FSR Fiberglass Stain Remover, a sort of gel that comes in a 1 pint tub, should be able to get it from a chandlers or on line.

Plenty of information has been mentioned on this forum over the past. Do a search and I'm sure you will read all about it.
