Sage words from Michael Brigg! Adding the 3" doesn't really 'have to be done'.

I was 6' 4" once and have probably shrunk a bit by now. My only recent Firefly experience has been with an extended mast. I don't really know whether these fabled three inches will make that much difference and I guess the sensible thing would be to try first before getting out the hacksaw. Thanks all for your input.

The Merlin has plenty of headroom and the Tideway (gunter) boom can be set high enough to sip tea from the best family Worcester while sitting up with a straight back...

3in always makes a difference....

But have to admit, I really enjoyed the extra 3in and really would not be keen to have to go back to the low boom again.
