Where is a storm sail reduced in size?
I have a set of old Enterprise sails, that I would like to reduce the main down to storm size, I had thought of just cutting the Roach off ?
Storm sails.
Re: Storm sails.
You would be better cutting a section off the foot, that will preserve the shape of the sail better. Alternately you can just get a reinforcing patch and eye put in the luff and leech 12 to 18" above the foot and reef the sail with a lashing.

Re: Storm sails.
Ideally you use a Firefly sail or something, but cutting the foot off is conventional.
The best setup might be two have two slab reefs plus a full length batten at the bottom, then you just tie down the slabs and roll the excess round the batten which is about 25 times easier than trying to roll the sail up on the water without anything to roll it round. Those with unlimited budgets will have a zip to roll up the excess sail into, which is super neat and handy, but costs.

Re: Storm sails.
I have actually got 3 sets of sails a new set a nearly new set and the older set I wish to use, I would prefer not to reef, a reduced sail would be so much easier to use.

I have decided to go with Peters suggestion after looking at the sail, I will use it as a loose footed sail.
