Come on Michael,

Stop teasing us with snippets. That's not a proper photo.....

Looks promising though.

Cheers

I think Ed would describe that (rather coquettish" picture of Planet as "Callipygian." (Do a search on it! )

Forgot to post these, she shows her all!

Don't look to closely, plenty of things to be done and surfaces to be worked up once she has taken up further.

Now os the time to get her well and truly wet.

It occurs to me that she should have handles?

I describe myself as loving all my boats like my children. Unconditional love that, unlike King Lear, can only be given in equal measure to each.

Some however, like my Carl Douglas Scull, and Torment K102, my 10sq m IC, enjoy a more carnal relationship.

This is not wrong. as Boats, like Gods, have relationships with their owners (and creators) in which like Greek mythology, incest (and worse) is both tolerated and even encouraged!

So, perhaps the word here should be love handles and wet tea-shirts!

I loved the old yellow...But the new blue is very nice.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Ready to go but for some reason the water has all but gone away. I am told it might come back next week. Who knows...

Dull Monday morning but at least some water...and enough wind to make me put in an altogether too big reef for my maiden trip.

Anyway, if I can avoid sitting on the sheets it all works. Status of water ingress issues 'mangeable'. Would have helped if I had remembered to put the bungs in.

Very good to see her back on the water. By the way the old cotton main was given to me by a friend who thought it was a firefly sail, but I could see the N in old stitching ( there were no numbers on it) so it didn't come with the boat.
Beware of cracks in the mast! I've broken two wooden masts and they do alot of damage to the decks when they break. If it has never been reglued the old glue will also be at the end of it life. It may well pay to open the seam with a knife, repair/reinforce cracks and reglue the mast.
A modern sail will be putting much more pressure on the mast too.

Do bring it up to Hunts for the CVRDA Nationals. It would be really good to have another ribbed 'vintage' boat out.

Reefing was in part due to being a bit ginger about the mast. There are no cracks in glued joins or shakes, just one rather nasty crack across the grain on one side just above the hounds.

A question about older N12s with wooden masts. Did they have diamonds originally?

I suspect we will often be reefed anyway, both my crew and I each extend to over 50% of the boat's length. There is a need to keep the boom high. Still trying to organise a half tide mooring for a week to help her take up.

Most wooden masts would have had diamonds, Robin Steavenson's book on the Story of the 12s certainly show them.

My word. What a beautiful Vintage 12. Fabulous.

Hope you have plenty of fun sailing her, she's still a beauty.
