Autumnal sealant rage

Post by Michael4 » Thu Oct 22, 2015 10:48 pm

Just thought I'd ask...

Has anyone ever solved the problem of sealant setting over time in the the tube's spout resulting in all sorts of wrestling shennanigans? I've tried the usual tape, nails, screws, caps etc but just thought that a clever solution may have been devised by someone...

...on the assumption that most sealants are 'air drying' I wonder whether keeping the stuff in a bucket of water is the answer?!

Unscrew nozzle cover thread with plastic film of some description, then screw nozzle back on, this works. Clean nozzle with a 6mm drill bit, hold nozzle then spin drill bit into set sealer, this will clean out old set sealer and give you a usable nozzle, be careful though.

I should perhaps have said, remove nozzle when required and drill from the threaded end :D
and hold nozzle with a pair of pliers :D
What was the wingnut awarded for ??

Wrestling with a tube of sealant then ending up wearing most of it.

That the memory is sealed in your mind, stuck forever would imply that the colour was cat poo?

Most modern sealants are moisture curing. If the tube has a cap, remove the nozzle and use it!. If its a gun cartridge you are probably S.O.L. but you could try pouring some candlewax down the ass end of the tube and rolling it around then tipping out the excess to reseal the piston and cap the end the nozzle goes on with a small piece of foil then tape up thoroughly.

For optimum life, pack all your tubes together in an airtight bag or tupperware box, with a fresh desiccant sachet, and if possible store at the lowest temperature permitted in the datasheet, or at least keep them cool!
