I have been looking at a lot of finns recently mainly on the web and i am wundering what is better, as my boat has the side cleats mounted already is it worth keeping them and using side cleating main, or should i swap it to centre with a centre jamer i have all the parts but i was intersteaded to which would be more competitive and easyer to use i have sailed with both centre and aft mains and have leant both the styles.
Would be intersteaed on other peoples veiws.

I would suggest you try the boat as it is initially then try the centre jammer, it really is a case of personal preference.I am now using the centre jammer and prefer it but i know people who do not.If it makes a diference Ben Ainslie uses the centre jammer and he seems to do ok!!

I have sailed Finns and OKs for many years and much preferred the centre jammer. However, you must set it up right, so that it is easy to uncleat. The last thing you want as you are struggling to prevent a capsize is to have to lean in to uncleat the main.

Still, at least a badly set up one will teach you to head up in the gusts.
