Use proper Tung Oil based varnishes I guess.
Yup have seen price of copper...at this rate I think they will start mining in Cornwall again.
My first Jollyboat had an extra heavy bronze plate, weighing in at a healthy 85 or so pounds. When the boat died (in Greece) I was not surprised to see that the plate was pinched pretty damn quick. Imagine what it would be worth now!
Comparing albums with boats is an interesting concept....anybody want to start a list of pairings:

Wooden boats
"I'll sail this boat alone" Solo
"Yellow submarine" Terrapin at Clywedog (with sincere apologies to John and Lyn!)
"Red sails in the sunset" Mirror Dinghy
"We made it for you" by the Boats!! Definitely the CVRDA anthem
"Banana boat song" Merlin design
"Skye Boat song" - must be one of those forgotten or lost classes

Lest we forget:
Varnish every year - five coats was it?
Bleeding knuckles from those d*mn ribs
Compression fractures in wooden masts
Endless fiddling with spreader tension
Or planing the mast of your or OK OR Finn
And the simple envy of the chap who had the latest Starfish or Mark VIII or whatever and romped away from you.
Um - but beautiful mahogany - and now I own that damn Starfish that got away. Satisfactory on every front would'n't you say.
Cheers
Charles
