Does anybody know is there is a specific record for sailing around the Isle of Wight in a dinghy? The RYA and google were not very useful but somebody may be able to point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I've done it in 10 and a half hours in a Wayfarer. I'm sure the modern skiff style dinghies could do it in much less time.

Do you know what set the record? From what little I know of Emma Hamilton (photos), I would say it is capable of beating most things in the right conditions.

The new Leopard was the fastest monohull on Saturday with the Extreme 40s being fastest multis I think. The SB3s were around between 9hrs 18min to 9hrs 46mins.

Had to retire Emma H just before Yarmouth after the dolphin striker cable failed resulting in a very bent main beam and a cracked beam socket in the starboard hull! Absolutely gutted we where on the tail of the 3rd place vx40 at the time. ( A Hobie Tiger from Calshot cats went round in 5hrs 30mins)

Oh no sorry to hear this. Hope Lady H can be got back together relatively painlessly! What would have been your handicap position? You are only what - 25 foot? So close to 40 footers is good going!

Fortunatly the beam has jacked straight, no sign of any deformation so guess we got off lightly should have her back in the water soon

We didn't have a handicap as we couldn't officialy enter being well under the 750kg minimum weight limit dictated by the ISC.

as for staying with the vx 40's we had perfect conditions for Emma H 10 - 12 knots of breeze and totally flat water ( the vx 40's are well over twice our weight and only carry 15% more sail upwind and for this event where carrying a crew of 8) am sure they would have got away from us in the lumpy seas and stronger winds down the back of the island
