CVRDA XMAS QUIZ

I have put together a little quiz to test your classic dinghy sailing knowledge over xmas.

It will hopefully have a selection of questions from the 'quite taxing....through to the 'complete anorak' level of difficulty.

Enough anyway to keep you thinking over the Xmas break. Most answers are available online...but by no means all.

I will put it up on the Web site on Christmas Eve and post the answers on New Years day.

There will be some prizes - not sure what yet, until I talk with Lois...for the best score before New Years Day.

So keep a look out on Christmas Eve.....and pass the word around so we get lots of entrants.

cheers

OK.....it's all up and running.

You can follow link from the home page or go straight to: http://www.cvrda.org/quiz/quiz_2004.htm

I havn't quite worked out all the rules....and for that matter I am less than completely sure about the accuracy of all my 'answers'....but if I spend any longer with my nose buried in a 4ft high pile of 40 year old dinghy books I am going to go quite crazy.

I think I would get a fair few without researching....but I would certainly have to do a bit of looking to find answers to some of the questions.

I think the only 'rules' are:

Please don't send me lots of half-completed answers as they will take ages to mark.

Feel free to discuss the questions on the forum.....but try not to give them away on the Forum....if you want to tell anybody off-list or exchange or swap answers....that is up to you.

I will publish the answers on the evening of Jan 2nd.....and announce winners as soon as possible after that.

Please do tell anybody who you think might be interested about the quiz....and I hope we will get lots of answers....well at least not just Rupert and Alan.

Have fun

cheers

do we get extra points for pointing out questions that can have more than one answer?

I strongly suspect that more than one question can have more than one answer....and hey....I am not saying what is right (yet)...

No extra points....just that glowing feeling that comes from being a right know it all.

Of course if there are two answers....for full 'know-it-all' effect you should give both.

which in the case I 'think' your are talking about won't be hard.....someone pointed that out in a cool 3 mins after posting the quiz.

Well, now I feel guilty.....they were a complete set before I pinched 1962. If it makes you feel any better, 1962 is a really weak one, with very little of any use in it.

But they will help for sure.

Good luck

happy browsing

Is anyone else pulling their hair out over this?

Ed, I hate you - valuable varnishing time being lost to scanning thorugh old books. Just got the collection of 1960s Y & Y to go through now as I'm sure one of the pics is in there somewhere.

Hmmm, well, Rupert has hardly spoken since the damn thing has posted & has a vast network of family working on the ones he's stuck on...so Ed, I'm not so fond of you either...

OK, Kathryn, I got the hint and clicked submit, even with all those answers missing. Just call me stupid! One good think is that I just got given all my father's Uffa Fox books! Again, not sure if Kathryn sees that in a positive light, as bookcases already full...
Looking forward to all the arguements following publication of answers!
