Cross channel ferries
This may seem an odd question but does anyone know if the ferry companies allow you to take a boat across on a trailer without a car. ie. push it on and off. I know someone who wants to bring a 505 back from Germany.

Certainly some do!
I have done this with a trailer of windsurfing gear going out to Tiree in Inner Hedbrides with Cal-Mac.
Many moons ago Dun Lairough (not right spelling - Dun Leary Dublin) sailing club invited the cvrda out for a meeting in the harbour there with the Water Wags.
Enticements included: Guinness served on the water between races!
They had a deal with the Ferry Line to allow boats to be taken on the ferry as 'hand-luggage'! You drove to the Anglesey and left your car there, threw all your kit into the boat and took it onto ferry on the trolley. At the other end you walked the boat off and straight into the dinghy park next door to the ferry terminal.
Whole trip seemed like a great idea to me and I have always wanted to try and get invited again.
As for cross-channel ferrys.....I think the only answer will be to ask them and see....

It would be excellent...trouble is most of us have trouble leaving the south west to get to the sailing areas of our other members (who seem to have less trouble coming to the SW in return!) so how many would actually be able to make the trip? I know I'd love to, but would struggle big time. One of those adventures which goes in the "when the kids are older" box.

and a fourteen or two.
in fact dinghy races across the channel used to be quite common, but not sure if this was quite what Roger had in mind.

A couple of ToYs went across in 1966 in less than 2 hours, apparently, a record for the time. It's all a bit busy these days, I think.
I confess I though he meant something else entirely, and I was surprised at him having such thoughts when such a new dad...
I would imagine the answer is yes, but not aboard Brynhild.
